Tibbits and Tibbo - Modular and Programmable

The Tibbo Project System is a modular, configurable and simple to implement mini automation platform.This appears to be interesting concept both for Instrumentation and Automation. It could be easily tried for Building Automation and Energy Automation for Small Offices and Homes. It may also help in Custom Manufacturing Machine Development.

Tibbits (as in "Tibbo Bits") are blocks of prepackaged I/O functionality   housed in color-coded plastic shells. Want an ADC? There is a Tibbit for   this. 5V power supply? Got that! RS232/422/485 port? PoE? PWM? We   have these, and many other Tibbits, too.

Each TPP can accommodate multiple Tibbit modules and connectors. Only bare essentials are provided on each boards: There is a CPU, an   Ethernet port, and a very simple power supply. The rest of the board’s   functionality is defined by what Tibbits you plug in. There are several   TPP “sizes” that differ in the number of Tibbits they can accommodate.

Controller Area Network - CAN - in Automation

CAN (Controller Area Network) is a serial bus system, which was originally developed for automotive applications in the early 1980's. The CAN protocol was internationally standardized in 1993 as ISO 11898-1 and comprises the data link layer of the seven layer ISO/OSI reference model.

CANopen is a CAN-based higher layer protocol. It was developed as a standardized embedded network with highly flexible configuration capabilities.

In the year 1992, several companies founded the CAN in Automation (CiA) non-profit group, in order to provide technical, product and marketing information.

Hesch (Germany) has developed an industrial dust-filtering systems. The HE 5750 host-controller provides a CANopen NMT master interface to communicate to the sub-layered valve units operating the dust-filters. The entire system can be controlled by means of the Profibus or Modbus interfaces. The embedded filter control software supports the reduction of emission values and energy costs.

The valve controllers are uses to pulse solenoid valves in industrial dust extraction technology. They are controlled via an embedded CANopen network by means of the HE 5750 host-controller. The NMT slave units are attributed locally and technically to one filter chamber each. This concept adapts to any desired number of filter chambers and valves.

1-Wire Temperature Control

This free project was designed to measure and control temperature in the range of - 55°C to +125°C with 0.1°C accuracy. It is based on the popular PIC16F628A microcontroller of Microchip.

The microcontroller uses the 1-Wire protocol ( sometimes known as a MicroLAN ) to communicate with a DS18B20 digital thermometer and a DS2405 addressable switch. The 1-Wire bus requires only one data line (and ground) for communication with a central microprocessor .

The interface application is designed to provide a friendly and flexible interface to the controller. It allows the controller settings to be read and written, and the process temperature to be monitored.

The 8-Bit CMOS microcontroller of Microchip PIC16F628A continuously reads the process temperature ( PVar ) from the DS18B20 sensor and depending on the desired temperature setpoint ( SPoint ) value of the process, manipulates the DS2405 addressable switch,using ON-OFF control algorithm
